Quilt

Quiltmaking has long been considered one of the two only "true" American Art forms; the other Artform being Jazz. Researchers, however, have proven that what we have considered as a uniquely American art form found its origin throughout time, in areas around the world.

The earliest form of quilting technique to date has been found on an ivory carving, found in the Temple of Osiris at Abydos which features the king of the Egyptian First Dynasty wearing a mantle/cloak that appears to be quilted.1 This artifact is dated 35th Century BC. Quilted art, clothing and artifacts depicting quilting technique have similarly been found in China appearing in ornamental silk quilts excavated from tombs dating 770-221 BC, in India appearing on ornate cloth dating 327 BC, in Mongolia appearing on quilted linen carpet dating circa 2nd century BC and in Russian in patched and leather felt Slippers dating circa 8th – 9th century AD.2

Antidotal Poetry for Career and Professional Success

Career Relief

Poetry has long conquered the concepts of love and loss. It has analyzed the agonies of war, the notions of beauty and the beliefs behind religion. What poetry has so often failed to do, however, is tackle practical issues which have a big impact on the everyday lives of readers, such as success in the career market. A new book with a new approach to poetry, Marilyn Carroll's Antidotal Poetry for Career and Personal Success ( published by Authorhouse) explores issues such as career management and evaluation, leadership effectiveness, and career inspiration in the form of thought- provoking verse.

Dean Mitchell grew up in small town Quincy, Florida, in a predominantly African American neighborhood where art was rare and Dean Mitchellartists were an anomaly. While other children played games and sports, Mitchell found refuge in drawing and painting, expressing himself and his emotions through images inspired by daily life in his hometown.

Dean Mitchell - GrandmotherMitchell’s work evokes his ardent desire to imbue each image with dignity, compassion, pride, and respect. He paints the world that is most familiar to him, finding iconic power in the portraits of family and lifelong friends, the weathered facade of a ramshackle barn, or doorways along a deserted New Orleans street. With the touch of a master, Mitchell evokes the triumph and transcendence of the ordinary. His crisp lines and distinctive color palette transform compositions of light and shadow into impassioned images of honor and reverence, humanity and hope.
