S. Pierre Price Photography - The Man
Captured in my viewfinderThe portrait in art comes with social, cultural, and psychological
underpinnings that are complex and endlessly fascinating to contemplate. As a species, we have learned to understand others by reading their faces; it is one of the ways we bind ourselves together and protect ourselves from danger. In that regard, our interest in faces can be seen simply as an evolutionary fact. Before all a photographer is, like a painter, an artist of a vision. The technique follows, more or less faithfully, in reconstructing, even transforming, that original vision. The photographer often has a certain personality which is expressed in their work.

Dean Mitchell grew up in small town Quincy, Florida, in a predominantly African American neighborhood where art was rare and
artists were an anomaly. While other children played games and sports, Mitchell found refuge in drawing and painting, expressing himself and his emotions through images inspired by daily life in his hometown.
Mitchell’s work evokes his ardent desire to imbue each image with dignity, compassion, pride, and respect. He paints the world that is most familiar to him, finding iconic power in the portraits of family and lifelong friends, the weathered facade of a ramshackle barn, or doorways along a deserted New Orleans street. With the touch of a master, Mitchell evokes the triumph and transcendence of the ordinary. His crisp lines and distinctive color palette transform compositions of light and shadow into impassioned images of honor and reverence, humanity and hope.

"My work is not about color; it's about life. Once you get to know your subjects, you can develop a love that comes through in your work. In the end, you hope you can do something that will help people come together. Emotions are universal, no matter what color the skin." - Dean Mitchell

About this Book
"As Kwai Chang moved through the arid desert of the American West, I would move through the equally desolate ghettos of Brooklyn, and we would each search: he for his family and I for my father. . . ."
The middle of three sisters, Pamela is a quiet, thoughtful girl with a huge hole in her life-the space her father used to fill before her mother kicked him out. Occasionally, Pamela conjures up Kwai Chang, David Carradine's character, from the Western action series Kung Fu, to give her spiritual guidance and advice she would normally turn to her parents for. But with her father gone, her mother has fallen into a pit of confusion and mental disarray. So it is up to Pamela and her sisters, Nona and Theresa, to run the household.
Ms. Pedroso is an Atlanta quilt artist whose works have been displayed at the Fernbank Science Museum, Art Station Contemporary Art Gallery and in several local Quilt Shows. In 2002, her quilt entitled "Simply Complicated", a multi-faceted contemporary American block display utilizing Afrocentric fabrics, was featured in Quilt Magazine, A National Quilt Publication. Her quilting style is very distinctive, in that her works typically depict historically significant quilt block patterns ranging from the mid 1800's through current contemporary American block patterns, but utilizing African and ethnic fabrics. Ms. Pedroso launched her own brand, "Aunt Be' Quilts", in 2003 through which she designs and creates custom only quilts. She has created commissioned "Quilt Artwork" for private collections. She is also a member of the Brown Sugar Stitchers Quilting Guild of Atlanta, Ga. Ms. Pedroso teaches Introduction to Quilting courses for the National Black Arts Festival and Hancock Fabrics.
